I ran in Griffith Park today and manage to run 4.5 miles. Go me!!!!!!!! The run today was a lot harder than the run on Friday. I'm used to running in the evening when it's cooler and also have given my body the change to wake up. I also ran on a track on Friday, so the terrain was constant and steady with no hills and bumps.
It's beautiful outside in Southern California. The sun was beating against my skin and the heat made the run that much harder. I ran in the morning versus at night and my body is adjusting to the changes. I didn't realize the time you run, weather and terrain could make such a difference in your performance. I pushed through the pain and was reminded by Saul, "Yes you can." There were horses on the trail, so we had to stop running. We didn't want to spook them. Also, there was a huge puddle of water in the middle of the trail, so we had to take a detour and walk up the hill and cross the street to get back on the trail. It's really hard to pick up after you stop. The run is that much harder. When it gets tough and I want to stop running, I'll remember how hard it is to get your body into gear again.
This morning I had half a banana. I didn't want to eat too heavy. That can also affect your performance. I'm always thirsty after a run. Of course, I always have water on hand. I'm home now and just ate an orange and will be eating cereal in a little bit. I'm craving Coffee Bean. I learned to not drink coffee before a workout, because it's slows me down. That's just me. I'm not a nutritionist, so please speak to your doctor before starting any exercise program.
4.5 miles!!!!! Who-hoo!!!!!! I'm that much closer to 13.2 miles. I'll get there. Keep pushing forward!!!!
Much love,
